Diving Certificate Levels

scuba diving certification

An introductory course can be a great way to get started if you are keen to dive but not sure where you should start. Also known as a buceo (or baptism in water), this course can be a great option for beginners or those who don't have much time. To begin diving at 12 metres or more, you'll need to be accompanied by a professional instructor. If you decide to take any additional classes, you can upgrade to the next level, such as a Rescue or Advanced open water certification.

PADI Scuba Diver

There are several PADI Scuba Diver courses. If you are just starting out, you can begin with the introductory course. After achieving certain levels of competency, you can progress to a higher degree. PADI Scuba Diver courses are made up of 14 modules that can be broken down into three sections. The course usually lasts three days, but can be upgraded in as little as 1/1.5 days. This is the most well-known course and will permit you to dive up 18 meters.

Advanced open-water diver

Open water divers who have completed the Open Water Diver Course have an AOW certification. AOW divers can dive to depths greater than 60 feet. AOW divers can also work on buoyancy or air consumption. Open water divers with advanced skills can do specialty dives like wreck diving. There are several levels of AOW certificates. Listed below are the differences between these levels. You can read more about these levels by reading on.

Rescue diver

There are three levels of Rescue Diver certification: technical, recreational and leader. International Standards Organisations (ISO) set the standards for these levels. These training levels are based upon BS EN 14413-2 and ISO 24801-1, 2004. Level-one instructors can teach recreational divers, assess them up to level one, and plan and execute dives. They can also teach rescue techniques and guide other divers in open water.

Cave-1 class

A cave diver certification program involves a minimum of 40 hours of academic instruction and experience. Course content includes cave diving techniques and skills, standard procedures and emergency procedures, and information on the hazards and challenges of the environment. During the cave course, students are assessed on their skills through two sections: academics as well as water-based exercises. They must also demonstrate their proficiency and skills by passing an exam. The course requires the student to complete a cave dive course manual.
