Dani Koyomaru

There are a variety of options for scuba divers wanting to dive in Saint Lucia. You have the option to visit Rosemond's Trench which is smaller but no less impressive. Or, you can explore deeper waters. The site is well-known for its huge schools of tropical fish, man-sized sponges and intricate coral formations. You can also dive here to see the famous Saint Lucia coral reef system.

A few miles farther out from the coast is the Daini Koyomaru wreck. This Japanese dredger sank in 1996. The ship is partially submerged and the superstructure holds the wreck. Upturned decks are visible, as well as inscriptions in Japanese and other languages.

Dani Koyomaru dredger

Daini Koyomaru, an old Japanese fishing vessel, was dredged to its current location in 1996. It's a spectacular wreck to dive. It's 74 meters long and about twenty-four meters tall. The dredger, which is sunken on its side now makes it a safe place for experienced divers to dive. French angelfish, garden and moray-eels, as well as barracudas, are some of the marine life that live in the dredger.

Another popular St Lucia dive spot is the 165-foot cargo vessel Lesleen M. This Japanese dredger is also a popular one. The depths at this site are not very deep, but the reef is home a lot of fascinating creatures like scorpionfish, flying grunards, and even rays.

Soufriere Marine Management Area

You can dive in St Lucia's Soufriere Marine Management Area to see the beautiful coral reefs. The marine management area was created in order to protect the waters and maintain a healthy ecosystem. It was born out of conflict among resource users and environmental degradation. SMMA was especially created due to conflict between local fishermen and divers.

Since 2004, Soufriere pitons has been a UNESCO World Heritage location. It is managed as a nature reserve and features some of the best diving in St Lucia. This site is home to many coral species, as well as a variety of tropical fish. The passage of many species of cetaceans as well as predators is another reason for this area being so popular. Divers can observe the stunning marine biodiversity.
