Make a career as a Cavern Diver

If you are considering becoming a cavern diver, you will need to complete a scuba diving course. This course includes four scuba dives: the first is an outdoor practice dive, where you will learn the basic techniques of handling line and reel, avoiding silt-outs, and air management. Your instructor will show you how plan your dive, and keep your air and orientation under control. After the course you will be certified to dive in caves and other caves following safety rules.

Safety

The Rule of Threes is the cave diving safety protocol. Cave divers should have at least three sources of light, and two tanks. They should also separate their gas into three distinct sections in order to have enough to last the dive. If the dive crew is experienced and has been diving in caves in the past, a more conservative gas management program is preferred. Cave divers should be careful when diving in caves.

Equipment

Cave diving requires specific equipment. It is important to carry two types of safety reels. One should be used for guideline running, while the other should keep the line tension high while the diver is in a cave. Make sure each diver has a safety line with enough line to reach the cave entrance. The majority of manufacturers will fill the reels with guideline. This increases the likelihood of them jamming. To reduce the chance of jamming, cut about 10 meters (30ft) of length before using.

Maximum penetration

TDI offers a cavern course to scuba divers looking to dive in areas where it is not possible to reach the vertical. This includes dives into caverns, and overhangs. This course is not required to be able to dive in caverns, but it will teach you the skills necessary to make the most out of these environments. You will learn to navigate the often-hidden spaces safely.

Maximum depth

There are certain limitations to cavern diving. You must never dive at night, and be aware of your limits. Cavern diving requires advanced training, which is not the case for other types. To be able to dive in caverns safely, you will need to know the basics and understand your limits. It is a good idea to have some experience in cave diving before you attempt it. You can then embark on a journey into cavern diving.
