Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island has some great offshore dive spots. To reach these sites, visitors can board a visiting boat. These sites are usually rocky and are good hunting and photography grounds. These areas are home to healthy kelp and purple hydro coral. This area is ideal for Southern California waters because of its excellent visibility.

It is possible to kayak and snorkel on the island. If it is dry, tent camping can be done. You can also find a large number of pinnipeds living on the island. These include harbor seals (northern elephant seals) and California sealions. These animals can be seen in the rocks surrounding the sea lion nestery. There are several overlooks on the island.

Anacapa Island

There is a wide variety of marine life on Anacapa Island. The area is home to one of the first Marine Protected Areas in the United States. The area offers diving opportunities that are both excellent for experienced and beginners. The waters around the island are relatively warm and are ideal for diving with a wetsuit. In the fall and late summer, surface temperatures can reach 70 degrees F (21 degrees Celsius). In winter, temperatures may drop as low to 50 degrees F (10oC). It is recommended to wear a 7mm suit. During these months visibility is typically at least 100ft (30M).

Dive charter boats, as well the Island Packers, can take you to Anacapa. There are many dive locations on the island. One of them is a 40-foot-tall archrock. These sites can be viewed by snorkeling gear.
